The Violet Drink is one of Starbucks’ many drinks that is covering the web with photos. Users all over Instagram have been posting photos of The Violet Drink, calling it “The Purple Drink” instead. The drink is on the Refreshers Menu at Starbucks, and I will be seeing if it lives up to the hype.
The Purple Drink is one of Starbucks’ non-coffee drinks that they have to offer. The Purple Drink, alongside the Pink Drink have been touted as one of the prettiest looking drinks you can buy from Starbucks, and I would have to agree with them. The fruit floating right along with the ice cubes at the top, with a small amount of seeds bouncing around at the bottom does have a nice aesthetic appeal. But how does it taste?
For Starters, it is advertised as a mixture of sweet blackberries and tart hibiscus, however I can’t say I tasted too much sweetness. Although it tasted of blackberry, it was not as sweet as the name implied to me. This is not to say the drink tasted unpleasant. It was very good. It didn’t have too much sugar to make me unsure about drinking it (A Grande has 19g of sugar), or too many calories (Grande has 110), or too much caffeine (Grande has 45mg). All of this has a huge impact on me buying a drink, and rest assured, you can still get to sleep at night if you have one of these in the day.
Overall, I will give this drink a 6.5/10. It’s taste wasn’t one that could be easily described as sweet, or tart, or pleasant, or unpleasant, it was just there. It tasted, really, like watered down blackberry juice. One thing I will give this drink, is the fact that unlike other Refreshers from Starbucks, if you drink it over a longer period, the ice melting really doesn’t take the flavor away as it does in some drinks like Peach Citrus White Tea Infusion Lemonade. Also, if you are not a fan of drinks with things, other than ice, in it, you may want to stay away, as you will have plenty of seeds coming up your straw.
My tip, for those of you thinking to order this drink, is to ask for light ice because it comes with lots, and if you are wanting something a bit more tangy, as for a scoop of lime slices to be added as well.
